

Fernando Navarro Magat, of Chula Vista, CA, passed away on October 23, 2023, peacefully and surrounded by family at the age of 99. Fernando, was born on May 9, 1924, to Juliana Navarro and Gonzalo Magat, in Pampanga, Philippines.
Fernando highly valued education and made it a priority for himself, and later, for his children and grandchildren. In his teens, he moved to Manila to pursue his dream of attending college. While in Manila, he proudly worked many interesting jobs. For many years he was a general manager for Robles Trucking, followed by General Transport Services. Prior to that, he was among the presidential palace security during the Manuel Quezon administration. It was there, at Malacañang Palace, where he met the love of his life, Aurora Umali.
Fernando and Aurora were devoted to each other for 63 years of marriage. Together they created a large and tight-knit family, beginning with their 8 children: Reynaldo, Sylvia, Lourdes, Rodolfo, Romeo, Flordeliza, Julieta, and Rolando.
In 1985, Fernando and Aurora immigrated to the United States to pursue the American Dream. In addition to supporting his family with a decade-long career at Pic N Save, he also enjoyed being an active member of various organizations, including being a member of the Knights of Columbus, and volunteering at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Fernando and Aurora’s favorite pastimes were ballroom dancing together at KP Hall and regular morning walks with the El Toyon Park Social Club.
After retirement, he devoted his time to caring for his wife and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden, watching his favorite sports teams, traveling with loved ones, and any occasion that brought his family together.
Fernando was predeceased by his wife Aurora, son Romeo, grandchildren Raina, Rowel, and Dan Reynald, great-grandchild Andrae Christian, and siblings Maria, Esperanza, Damaso, Teodora, Angeles, Cirilo, and Victoria. He is survived by his remaining 7 children, 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Fernando lived his life-giving and receiving love. He was known for lighting up rooms with his charm. His family looked up to him as an affectionate father and their guiding light. He will be forever loved and missed.
Fernando will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Aurora, at Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary.
Visitation services will be held at Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary on Saturday, November 4th, 2023, and Sunday, November 5th, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. A rosary will be held on Sunday at 6 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church on Monday, November 6th, 2023 at 10 a.m. Burial immediately follows.
