Manong Gil played a huge part in my life. He was my role model, my mentor, a loving brother and a true friend. He was always there when I needed someone to talk to and always willing to listen. A very generous, kind and caring person he was. 
During the 30 years I lived here, Manong Gil and I spent a great deal of time together.
We trained together, ran together, we drank together, we sure loved our beer. We would go to his church in Chula Vista once a week to mow the lawn and clean the yard,
Manong Gil and I ran 4 marathons together side by side, all 26.2 miles. I remember our first marathon, at mile 19, I was ready to call it quits, then he told me "stop and rest for a couple of minutes" and he waited for me, that's just the kind of person he was. 
I stopped running marathons at 4 but Manong Gil kept running a few more, he must have had at least 10 marathons under his belt.
Together, Manong Gil and I, ran countless half marathons, 10ks and 5ks, hundreds of miles all together. As you could imagine our drawers,  filled with tshirts that we have collected through the years of running races. I still have some of them, and I still wear them on my daily mile runs in Chicago. 
We've had such great memories together, and I will cherish those memories for as long as I live.
Manong Gil, THANK YOU, for everything you have done for me. I love you, I will miss you very much.

Let me end with the scripture that my son texted me  a couple of weeks ago.

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”

Uncle Gil never forgot where he came from and the people who helped and cared for him growing up. He will be remembered for his big and open heart. Thank you Uncle! You will surely be missed! Rest in Peace! Comfort to those you left behind! -ethel

I will always remember uncle chillin in the garage watching TV when me and Al would come over. He’d say, “What are you doing here?” Hahahahha that was was like almost every weekend!!!! And he was one of my nino’s…. Always put a front w a hard shell but was nice inside….
