

GLORIA ANN JOPLIN HARPENAU passed away on June 24, 2024 in El Cajon, California after a long battle with cancer. She was born to Kenneth and Elizabeth Joplin on February 5,1937 in Winfield, Kansas. Gloria attended Lincoln Acres Elementary School, Chula Vista Junior High School, Chula Vista High School and received an AA in Business from Grossmont Junior College.
She is survived by a loving family, her husband Leonard who she married in Las Vegas, Nevada on October, 26th 1958. They raised three children, Kenneth Harpenau, the late Gerald Harpenau (wife Michelle), and Christine Jones (husband Donald); five grandchildren, Morgan Harpenau, Wesley Jones (wife Jessica), Jamie Harpenau (husband Derrick Daughtry), Eric Jones (Cherish La Chappa) and Laci Harpenau; and two great grandchildren, Cameron and Jettson. Gloria was blessed with many family members and friends over her 87 years.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and son Gerald Harpenau.
Gloria worked for Pacific Bell for 25 years and was an agent with Prudential Real Estate for 12 years, as well as managed real estate she and her husband owned. She was on the Board of Directors with the Carriage House Timeshare Association in Las Vegas, Nevada from the 1970s to 2023, holding various offices, most recently President. She was also an active member of the Navajo Canyon Republican Women’s Club, holding various offices.
A favorite pastime of Gloria and her husband was participating in the Great Race vintage car rallies, where she navigated for 18 years for Leonard, who was the driver of a 1936 Buick Special and later a 1928 Ford Model A Sedan Delivery. Gloria and her husband enjoyed traveling; visiting 6 of the 7 continents. Back home she enjoyed scrapbooking, playing Bunco with a lovely group of ladies, having Saturday night dinners with their close friends, and she had a love for entertaining and cooking for her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 9th 2024 at the Little Chapel of the Roses in Glen Abbey Memorial Park, Bonita, California. Visitation will begin at 11:30am, with services to follow at 12:30pm.
