Jaime P. "Tatay" Galang, who peacefully joined his Creator April 3, 2011, is now in blissful union with his beloved wife, Elisa "Nanay" Torres Galang, who passed away last November 27, 2010. Their eight children- Norma, Juanita, Rogelio, Eduardo, Erlinda, Julieta, Ricardo and Lilian- grandchildren and great grandchildren continue to grieve over the great loss, but they are consoled by the thought that the two are reunited and happily together in the afterlife. Jaime and Elisa were married at the Tondo Catholic Church in the Philippines on January 2, 1942.
Jaime was born on June 26, 1920 in Calumpit, Bulacan in the Philippines, to Aurelio Galang and Eustaquia Pagdanganan. Prior to emigrating to the United States in 1977, he worked for over 30 years in the Logistics Center in the Philippine Department of National Defense. He took his oath as a U.S. citizen in 1982.
For his children, Jaime was the epitome of a doting husband and father. Putting high value on quality education, he pursued his lofty dreams for his children by working doubly hard to be able to get them a good education and to send them to the best schools.
For 68 years of their married life, Jaime and Elisa lived a simple, quiet life. They enjoyed guiding their children into adulthood, and eventually, taking care of their grandchildren, and likewise seeing them grow up under their care. When they started life in the United States, Jaime provided for the needs of his family by getting employed in several companies until his retirement in 1990.
An outgoing individual, Jaime loved to go on picnics with his family. When alone, he enjoyed train and bus rides as he strolled in the downtown areas to watch people in the malls, buy fruits and vegetables in the market to bring home to his family, walk in the park for exercise and a breath of fresh air.
His sudden illness in 2003 might have kept him at home, but he enjoyed the loving care of his wife and children. Despite this, his spirit did not waver, but instead inspired him to go on with his life. He often said that his family's support and attention gave him the strength and will to live.
Now, Jaime is gone to be with his wife Elisa, but memories of a life well- lived will continue to live and grow in the hearts of his family, and of others whose existence he had deeply touched, during his 90 years of productive life on earth.
