

He was born to the late David and Esperanza Kinong on January 22, 1933 in Baguio, Philippines. He was the eldest of 7 siblings. In his younger days, John joined a boxing club and won 2 fights. He graduated from high school and went on to join the United States Navy when he was 20. He served in the Vietnam War.
John married Delin Tacio on September 3, 1973. Shortly after, they relocated to San Diego, CA. John retired from the military after 20 years of service. Following his retirement, he held several jobs as a pest control exterminator, an animal control officer, a security guard, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He also was a member of the Bibak Association.
John was passionate about God and his family. He was a board member of Ablaze for Jesus Christian Fellowship. He faithfully attended weekly Bible studies and church services. John was a very kind and humble soul. People were drawn to his gracious smile and witty comments. He was a good singer and an even better whistler. He was excellent at bowling and golfing. He enjoyed taking care of his pets, adding to his shoe collection, and watching “Dancing With the Stars.”
He is survived by his loving wife, Delin, and 4 children: Rene Harris, Joel Kinong, Jolene Cayas, and Johanna Chan. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandson: Martin Jr., Joshua, John, Jeremiah, Jaylen, Jasmine, Jamie, Julia Ava, Josaiah, Aizsa Lynn, Samuel, Isabel, Micah, Elia, Camille, and great grandson Niko.
