Leonard was born the youngest of three children and grew up in Los Angeles before deciding to write his own story in San Diego at only 19 years old. From there he set out on his 42 year telecommunications career at the phone company, which became AT&T. It was at this first job at the phone company where Leonard met the love of his life, Sandie.
Leonard and Sandie wed in 1986 and their loving marriage spanned 38 years. They had their first child, Rachel in 1990 and purchased their forever home in Chula Vista that year. Five years later their twins, Emily and David were born. Leonard worked hard his whole life to ensure his family was always well provided for.
Leonard’s many interests included fishing, bowling, classic rock, the San Diego Chargers and Padres, NCAA sports, boxing, low-rider oldies music, politics, as well as many American sporting events.
One of Leonard’s most joyous seasons of life began in 2018 as he became a grandpa to David’s daughter, Rose. Then he happily retired from AT&T in 2020 and enjoyed the peaceful, good old days at home with Sandie before welcoming two more grandchildren in 2024: Naomi from Emily and Solomon Bear from Rachel, born two months apart.
Leonard is survived by his wife Sandie, their three children Rachel, Emily, and David, as well as his three grandchildren Rose, Naomi, and Solomon Bear.
A service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Paseo Del Rey Church in Chula Vista followed by a Celebration of Life from 3-7pm at the Vasquez House on 903 Monserate Avenue in Chula Vista.
Leonard was the kind of man whose actions spoke louder than his words. He was generous, funny, and loved his family and Jesus with all of his heart. He will forever be cherished, missed, and loved by those blessed to know him. Let us come together to honor his memory and celebrate how much he meant to us all.
