
Born: October 3, 1931 in Detroit, MI. Died: September 26, 2019 in San Diego, CA.
Marianne was the youngest of two girls who were born to Henry Raymond Maynard and Hazel Shaw Maynard. She great up in Detroit where she attended Wingert School. After high school, she attended Wayne State University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in art education. She joined Delta Sigma Theta sorority, following in the footsteps of her sister, Ruth Poindexter and her mother. Marianne earned her masters’ degree in art education and her PhD from University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as a post certificate in Occupational Therapy which set her career path for many years to come working in various OT positions in Madison, Ann Arbor and Cleveland.
Marianne was a lifelong artist, painter and sculptor and was also a prolific author of several books and publications. She was a licensed pilot as well and always enjoyed doing new things; traveling and broadening her experience. She passed away unexpectedly on 9/26/19, 7 days before her 88th birthday and is survived by her two nieces, Julia Poindexter and Yvonne Walden, and her grandnephew, Myer Walden – all of San Diego, CA.
