Shocked and stunned today to learn of Martha's passing. 
A strong, inspiring, caring, intelligent woman is gone much too soon. My deepest sympathy to her family, daughters and team.

Familia Chávez  we are with you in spirit, unfortunately in these unprecedented times we were unable to travel to pay our respects. But we remember Hermana Chavez with fond memories from ETA and Paradise Valley. Mari thinking of you my friend stay strong.

Part 2:
So many memories I have of her that I will cherish for the rest of my life, my tia who was small but carried a big punch!  She never back down from anything (even my dad, a story for another time) just as she never backed down for the ones she loved.  I will miss her terribly but know that we will be reunited on that glorious and wonderful day when like 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 says; 
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.  Therefore encourage one another with these words. 
I so look forward to that day with all my family.  Love you prima Mari, Vero, Julio, and tio Jose and my prayers will forever be with you and all your families.  

Part 1:
So many memories of my Tia Martha, she new me from birth and was with me at my University graduation.  As I type this I cannot stop the tears from dripping down my face, just the thought that when I go to San Diego I won't see here at her house and get a hug and get offered something to eat. But I need to write this since I won't be there in person today.
Tia Martha has always had a very special place in my heart since I can remember.  When i was a child growing up and it was her turn to host Christmas dinner she always had a gift for everyone, at least that is what I believe because she always had one for me.  My tia Martha was always there for me and with me for many of my special celebrations and moments.  She was not a very tall women in stature but what she lacked in height she made up in tenacity and strength.  A self made business woman, strong and brave who loved her family so much who also made a positive impact in my life.  She nurtured my leadership in church by inviting me to be her assistant in sabbath school when I was just a kid, she trusted me and used my gifts in church.  When I moved out of my house to live on my own she called me and asked me over to her house where not only did she feed me but gave me money and the corner piece of a sectional so I would have some furniture in my new apartment and I cherished the gift.  Tia Martha agreed to get all her crew and cater my wedding and cooked two goats in barbacoa, rice, beans, and salad for over 300 people.  She made the trip to my graduation in Puerto Rico when I graduated with my theology degree.  Here words of encouragement and pride for me were immensely valuable to me and I cherished them always. The first year I spent with the whole family for holidays , I didn’t even think anyone knew who I was or that I was even going to be there . I came down stairs to see everyone and Martha greeted me with a big hug and a present for Christmas and said “Merry Christmas Nicole , welcome to the family!” My heart melted and I cried to myself  . I was away from home and she made me feel so loved and welcomed in a unfamiliar place . Every Saturday she welcomed us to her home for lunch and she always talked to me about my future and my life with Ricardo . She was so excited for us ! She offered to cater our wedding and would always say “Your next!” Martha was the life of every event and every time I saw her I got that warm welcome feeling I felt at that very first Christmas . She made me feel comfortable wherever I was . In Texas at her sons wedding , at church , at her home , even at my own home she included me in every conversation. She supported my career and gave me motivation to keep working and build what I love . I love you Martha ! May you Rest In Peace and continue being the light in everyone’s life . 

I have told this story many times but never to you Hermana Martha, or your family.  
Many years ago you opened your home to our family. You made our life at PVS feel like home & somehow you made that feel effortless—your heart was truly just filled with so much love. Thank you. 

However for me the thing that touched me most was a Christmas morning,one where I distinctly remember waking up to SO MANY gifts. 
Clothes, school supplies, snacks, and dolls, and a purple sweater I probably wore way too many times. 
My mom told us they were from you but that we weren’t allowed to tell you we knew or you wouldn’t give us more gifts (haha.. that’s how she kept us from telling you we knew because that’s the other thing you were also so humble) 


Many years later and I still remember how that made me feel and so 3years ago my sister Ruthy and I started a little tiny project. ..

We call it the Love Drive. 

Every Christmas for the past 3 years we have donated Christmas gifts for children ages 3-12 to Escondido’s Interfaith. Nothing I ever really talk about but I bring it up today for the following reason. 
Your love and light will continue to shine on. 

In your honor, we will be changing the name of our project from “The Love Drive” to “Martha’s Love Drive” 

We will keep you alive by being the light you were to us for others.

I met Martha in 1993, and from that very First day I met her I knew there was something special about this Lady! Tia Martha as everyone called her, was always kind and sweet to me. She opened her home, and you always felt welcomed no matter who you were! I always remember her for her amazing cooking, and if you didn't get seconds or thirds she would say" No Te Gusto Mi Comida"? Believe it was always delicious. I will Miss her smile and her Voice. Martha will always have a Special place in My Heart! 

I just want to say that you will always be remembered and I will never forget that day you pick me up at the airport and welcome me to your home. My condolences to the family  that you’re a part of life as well. 
But we will see each other in that glorious day 
That it’s waiting for us.

Always supportive, opened her home and heart to everyone, I don't think anyone reading this can say they never tasted her cooking, she loved to cook!!  I remember Christmas at her house as a child, our parents would say, "No toquen, no pidan, no quebren nada" on the way there, knowing tia Martha let us get away with everything, Christmas as adults, she always made sure everyone had a gift, she even kept back up gifts just in case...birthdays, graduations, weddings, showers, she always took care of us!!! She will be missed, I know we will be reunited with her and I can't wait to see her sweet face again!!!

We loved Martha, she was the most wonderful hardworking sweet lady. I’m still having a hard time understanding why her. Our hearts are broken for her husband, children, grandchildren and family. She will always be in out prayers. Love to you all, Pat and Linda Marvil

We are so saddened that Martha is no longer with us. She became a part of our family in the summer of 1988 and we will miss her gentle nature and sweet smile forever. Aside from her work ethic, she was an honest, caring person.  We shared many smiles and some tears with her over the years. 
We send our deepest condolences to José and family.  May your happy memories soon replace the sad ones. Bless you all.
