

Maxima “Maxie” Magalong Talicol, beloved daughter of Fructoso and Virginia Magalong was born on December 27, 1932 in Bayambang, Philippines. Her siblings included 3 brothers and 2 sisters: Simplicio, Maurico, Francisco, Leonidas and Mercedes.
Maxie attended the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and North General Hospital School of Nursing. She completed her studies and earned a degree in Nursing in 1955. In 1958 Maxie immigrated to the United States with hopes of pursuing better educational and professional opportunities. Maxie completed her postgraduate studies in Maternity Nursing at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey and she also completed postgraduate studies in Psychiatric Nursing at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morristown, New Jersey.
Maxie was united in holy matrimony to Guillermo “Gely” David Talicol, on Oct 3, 1959 at Saint Aedan’s Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. After their marriage, Maxie and Gely moved to Norfolk, Virginia where their first daughter, Audrey was born in January 1961. Their second daughter, Arleen was born in April the following year.
The family moved to Coronado, CA and from 1963 to 1968, Maxie worked at Coronado Hospital in the Obstetrics and Nursery Department. In August 1966, Maxie and Gely’s youngest daughter, Kristin was born in the same hospital Maxie worked at.
From 1968 to 1970, the family moved to Washington D.C. where Gely worked for the White House under the presidencies of Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon. During that time Maxie worked for CAFRITZ Memorial Hospital in the Newborn and Premature Nursery where she worked the night shift to care for her three daughters during the day.
In 1970, the family moved to San Diego and Maxie began working at Coronado Hospital in their Skilled Nursing Facility where she was a Charge Nurse until she retired in May 1995. In 1980, the family moved to Chula Vista where they have resided for the past 44 years.
Maxie was an active member of the Filipino American Association of Saint Rose of Lima. She also was an active participant of The Club Walk at Plaza Bonita Mall where she would walk, do aerobics and catch up with friends. In her free time she liked to bake desserts and tended to her garden. She was most proud of her many orchids. She had a pleasant personality and a generous spirit. As a result of this, she was loved by many. Her life was as beautiful as the flowers she loved and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
Maxie quietly departed this life Sunday, September 8, 2024. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Audrey Eva.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her husband of 64 years, Gely, her daughters, Arleen (Daniel Cummins) and Kristin “Jingle” (Raymond Antonio), and her grandchildren who were her pride and joy and the light of her life: Allison, Courtney, Samantha, Cameron, Jessica and Jennifer and her great-granddaughter Aria Ava.
Glen Abbey Mortuary will begin receiving family and friends on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Magnolia Room. The following day, October 1, 2024 a funeral service will be held at Glen Abbey's Magnolia Room from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by the committal service at Miramar National Cemetery at 1:15 pm.
