

Everyone’s life is the sum total of all of the people they have met, the things they have done, the places they have gone. Nathaniel “Joe” Dunn was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Nathaniel will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Nathaniel was born on February 2, 1920 to Rev. O.E. and Rosalie Dunn. Nathaniel had 10 siblings: John, Evelyn, David, Virginia, Piper, Jess, Joe, Esther, Elwood and Thad. Nathaniel was raised both in California and Oklahoma.
Nathaniel exchanged wedding vows with Dorothy June on July 5, 1948 in Yuma, Arizona. Empathic and loyal Nathaniel was committed to making his new family happy.
While everything a person does in life contributes to who they grow into, it is ultimately the same person who holds the most influence on the next generation. Nathaniel was blessed with two sons, John and James. He did his best to fulfill their needs, raising them in a positive and nurturing environment. Later in life, Nathaniel was blessed again with 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Nathaniel enjoyed his leisure time in sport fishing, hunting, fishing and gardening. Nathaniel’s accomplishments were many. He was a WWII Veteran. Nathaniel was well known in the Southern California (San Diego area) in the sport fishing industry. Numerous newspapers stories on him over the years. There is an interview with him and a recording of the interview at the San Diego Historical Maritime Museum.
Nathaniel passed away due to natural causes on June 11, 2016 in San Diego, California. He is survived by his son James, his grandsons Aaron, Jeremy and Christopher Dunn. His 5 great-grandchildren, his brother Joe and his sister, Esther. He leaves other family members and friends to cherish his memory.
Funeral Service for Nathaniel “Joe” Dunn will be held at Glen Abbey’s Chapel of the Roses on June 24th, 2016.
Nathaniel will be laid to rest in Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.
Simply stated, Nathaniel was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. He leaves behind the legacy of a loving family, life-long friendships and many cherished memories.
