

Everyone’s life is the sum total of all of the people they have met, the things they have done, the places they have gone. Nemesiano Glorioso Merto Sr. was no exception. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Nemesiano will be remembered as a very exceptional person. Nemesiano’s life journey began on September 11, 1929. He first greeted the world in Pagbilad, Quezon Philippines. His parents' names were Bonifacio “Boni” Merto and Francisca “Ikay” Glorioso. He was raised with 4 siblings, Adelaida, Tita, Ponyoung and Inoy. Nemesiano was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his family sharing many life experiences over the years. Falling in love is a huge milestone for any person. Just knowing that you have met that special someone is a magical feeling. Nemesiano experienced that with Ofelia Etcubanas Vidal and the couple exchanged wedding vows on January 23, 1952. The wedding took place in the St. Catherine Catholic Church in the Philippines. Empathic and loyal, Nemesiano was committed to making his new family happy. While everything a person does in life contributes to who they grow into, it is ultimately this same person who holds the most influence on the next generation. Nemesiano was blessed with 8 children, Oscar, Luis, Mario, Fidel, Gil, Jimi, Liza and Melanie. Nemesiano worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs, raising his children in a positive and nurturing environment. Later on, Nemesiano was blessed with the gift of 21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchild/grandchildren. How a person performs in the workplace can be a reflection on how they live their life. Fortunately, Nemesiano enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Nemesiano worked diligently and did his best to succeed in each of his occupations. Nemesiano worked as a fisherman and farm worker for 45 years, including Indio, Delano and Madera, California from 1989-1994. A person's hobbies often mirror who they have become. Nemesiano enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in a number of different activities, including watching sports (especially baseball and basketball), going to the casino, walking and exploring San Diego and caring for his animals (chickens, dogs and birds. He was usually willing to share his interests with others. Nemesiano Glorioso Merto Sr. left us on November 23, 2011. He passed away at Paradise Valley Hospital in National City, California. He was 82 years old. He is survived by his wife Ofelia V. Merto, his sons Oscar (Leny), Luis (Emmy), Mario (Pearl), Fidel (Iris) and Jimi (Lud), his daughters Melanie (Roel) and Liza (Nelson), and 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Services were handled by Glen Abbey Mortuary. A funeral mass was held at St. Michael Catholic Church in San Diego, California on Monday, December 5, 2011. Nemesiano was laid to rest at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California. So this is Nemesiano’s life, the sum of the man that he became. Simply stated, Nemesiano was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being caring and giving, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Nemesiano leaves behind him a legacy of lifelong friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life Nemesiano touched will always remember him with a smile.
