Norma Marie Short

Norma Marie Short was born in San Diego on June 14, 1942. She was the fourth of five children. Norma grew up in Chula Vista and graduated from Chula Vista High School class of 1960. She was active in Flag Team. Shockingly she was very shy. After High School she graduated from Beauty School.

Norma lived in National City with her parents when she unexpectedly met the love of her life through friends. A handsome Navy sailor swept her off her feet. She then married her love Roger Short on August 19, 1967 and was happily married for 50 years 11 months. Rogers career in the Navy had them traveling to Maryland and Maine. The Shorts finally settled in San Diego in 1974. It is there both she and Roger became active members of St. Michaels Catholic Church in San Diego. Norma was a catechist, Eucharistic Minister, Youth and Young Adult Coordinator and oversaw the Confirmation Program.

Norma was a surrogate mother to all the youth and young adults that came into her life... she had a straightforward, no nonsense way of dealing with young people, and her tough love, compassion, and sense of humor was immeasurable.

Norma will be remembered as a loving wife to her beloved Roger, sister to four siblings, generous aunt and grandma to countless nieces and nephews, a good and loyal friend to many, and a mentor and hero to numerous youth and young adults. Her passing has left a tremendous void in the lives she touched. She was very loved and will be missed by all that love her.
