

Raymond Joseph Snyder, 75, of San Diego, passed away at his home on April 27th, 2022. Raymond was born in Los Angeles on August 2nd, 1946, to Paul and Mildred Snyder. He grew up in the Los Angeles area, then settled in San Diego where he lived for 45 years.
Raymond was a twenty-year veteran of the US Navy and was promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served aboard the USS Gompers, the USS Dixie, the USS New Orleans and the USS Ranger. As a Chief Data Systems Technician, Ray earned multiple awards for his professional performance, conduct and leadership skills, including the Medal of Commendation. During his career, he travelled throughout the world. His favorite places included the Philippines, Singapore, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Kenya. After leaving the Navy, Ray attended San Diego State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked as a senior engineering technician and hardware engineer until his retirement.
Ray was a beloved father and grandfather. He loved to barbeque and was fond of gardening. He had a passion for Filipino culture and was fluent in Tagalog. Ray also enjoyed going to the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park. To his cherished grandchildren, Mason and Kaylee, he was affectionally known as “Grandpa Zoo.” Raymond was predeceased by his brother William Snyder and daughter Judy Snyder. He is survived by his twin daughters Helen and Heidi. Raymond is also survived by his brother Donald Snyder and sisters Barbara Weller and Marilyn McNabb.
