

Regina “Gina” Jones-Riedel, 95, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Sun Life Manor Residential Care Home in Bonita, CA. Mrs. Jones-Riedel had previously been a 62-year resident of Chula Vista, CA and a life-long parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Chula Vista.
Regina spent her youth in Fort Wayne, Indiana, graduated from St. Catherine’s Academy, married Howard Jones of Pensacola, Florida, and eventually settled in Chula Vista, CA in 1950 to raise their 6 children. Regina worked as a San Diego County Court Clerk assigned to the then-San Diego County Marshall’s Office until she retired after 27 years of service. Regina was an expert seamstress with an extraordinary gift for making wedding dresses; she enjoyed doing needlepoint crafts and tending to her prolific Olalla berry bushes, which she harvested each season to make home-made jam. As a member of the Sweetwater Woman’s Club, Regina enjoyed playing bunko with her fellow club members and supporting various club-sponsored events including participating in the annual Holiday Home Tour, which she always looked forward to. In addition to her many activities, Regina enjoyed traveling around the United States, Canada and Europe.
Regina was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Jones, and her devoted second husband, Wm. Douglas “Doug” Riedel. In addition to her 6 children – Howard, Barbara, Alana, Loni, David & Timothy, Regina is survived by 6 grandchildren – Kristen, Jennifer, Theresa, Gregory, Monica & Matthew; and 10 great-grandchildren – Gavyn, Merritt, Jericho, Janeh, Joseph, Gabriel, Natalie, Johann, Mattias, and Jiselle.
Regina will long be remembered and missed for her enduring, quiet and gentle spirit, her generous and compassionate heart, and her unwavering strength found in faith and prayer.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service honoring Mrs. Jones-Riedel on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 1:00pm at Glen Abbey Memorial Park - Little Chapel of the Roses with interment at the Park immediately following the service. A family-hosted Remembrance Reception will follow the graveside service.
Glen Abbey Administration has requested that flowers should be scheduled for delivery on the day of the memorial service: Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary (for Mrs. Regina A.
