His proud parents were Bruce and Lola Chapman, married in Indiana. Richard was the 3rd of five children. His siblings are his older sister, Donna; older brother Leon, and two younger brothers, George and Kirby. The Chapman’s moved to Chula Vista, CA where Richard attended school, had lots of outdoor adventures, and a lifetime of memories. Chula Vista wasn’t as populated back then and had a lot of open land where kids could explore without worries.
Richard headed off to the Army at a young age to serve our country. He loved the Army which you can tell by looking at all the pictures of himself and his buddies during his deployment. He was very fond of Europe, especially the German culture.
After his service in the Army he started work at ROHR Industries in Chula Vista, CA. This company trained him how to be the best Tool and Dye Machinist they had. He worked well with everyone around him that he worked there nearly 37 years before retiring.
When at home he loved working outside. Using his carpentry skills, amongst many other skills to build on to his home, create decorative pieces for his yard, etc. He loved putting anything together; kits, clocks, train sets, creating stained glass art, and puzzles. He loved puzzles so much that he had a room called the “Puzzle Room”. Amongst other things he liked to work with his hands, liked to read, and listen to Polka music (there’s that German culture!). He loved drinking beverages out of the Stein’s he had collected over the years. He loved to travel and enjoy the good life; he didn’t have a bored bone in his body. One of his favorite routines was to walk up to the top of his property and watch the sunset every evening, he seized the day!
Richard will be missed very much by the love of his life, his wife of nearly 34 years, Virginia Mae Chapman, who has hope of the future in Christ Jesus, The Resurrection and The Life.
Richard leaves behind 6 children; Doris Kirby, Richard Chapman, Danny Chapman, Tommy Chapman, Angel Thorp, and Linda Winfield. Additionally he leaves behind three siblings; Donna, Leon and George. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, who will all miss him very much!
Richard was a great man in all aspects of his life as a son, brother, friend, uncle, father and grandparent. Most of all he was a man that loved his wife and she loved/loves him, they were dedicated to each other till death did them part!
We will all love and miss you, Richard Charles Chapman!
