Rodolfo Salalila Zapanta, CPO, USN Retired, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at the age of 90 at his home in San Diego, California. After a year of battling lung cancer, Rudy died peacefully with his beloved wife, Ligaya, and their three daughters by his side.
Rudy was born in Pampanga, Philippines to Andre and Marcelina Zapanta. He was the third of seven sons and four daughters. He enlisted in the Navy retiring after 24 years, and then was employed with the United States Postal Services, retiring 14 years later.
Rudy loved playing sports (bowling, basketball, fishing, tennis, billiards, air hockey, and table tennis) and exercised daily. He avidly watched football, basketball, bowling, baseball and boxing, and loved to play games (cards, Scrabble, backgammon, crossword/word puzzles). He loved reading and meditated on the Word of God, reading his Bible every day. Devout to the Catholic faith, he and his wife were Eucharistic ministers at the Church of the Most Precious Blood and St. Jerome Catholic Church.
Rudy was a devoted husband to Ligaya Mariano Zapanta; loving father to Lizabeth Cervantes (Roberto), Carol Rocha (Mark), and Anita Caro (Steve); doting grandfather to Genevie Cervantes Santana (Rene), Vangeline Zapanta Cervantes, Christopher Zapanta Rocha (Kristina), Teressa Cervantes Jalique (Christian), Matthew Stephen Caro, Cameron Zapanta Rocha, Ryan Joshua Caro, Nicolas Zapanta Cervantes, and Magdalen Zapanta Cervantes; and loving great-grandfather to Angeli Cervantes Santana, Wesley Noah Jalique, Isaiah Lorenzo Jalique, Elijah Manuel Jalique, and Mikaila Cervantes Santana.

to walk with us throughout our lives, until we meet again.
So rest in peace dear loved one, and thanks for all you’ve done.
