I would like to share with you some memories of Shirley.

We occasionally saw other during big Karganilla happenings such as weddings, and wakes but once in a while we would chance on each other in Tondo, Manila where her sister Josie lived and where my brother Danny and common cousin Amparing also resided. The three of them are now dead. 

However, when she took her Master’s degree here at the university, sometimes she would come to our house and once she slept here. So she  knew my children. And that’s why my two sons Bobby and Kerry made efforts to be here at lunch, although Bobby was I think at an important lunch meeting and Kerry worked in Calamba about 30 kms away. 

Earlier, Laura (Jay), my eldest daughter, wanted to visit her in Maryland as she lives in Pittsburgh, PA but by then she had transferred to CA. 

In August last year, I told her via Messenger that Bobby and Kerry’s daughter Keila will be in Irvine. She invited them for a visit in San Diego. Then in January, I  messaged her that Bobby and Keila did not have time to visit you there. I did not receive any more answer. 

I was saddened when I heard about her death. When I last saw her here in Laguna, she was still her bubbly self - always smiling. She was a wonderful cousin - her mother and my father were siblings. Our deepest condolence to you Sheryll and your siblings.

we will miss you and thank you for everything

Shirley is my cousin as her mother is the sister of my father. When they were younger and lived in Laoag, we used to see each other in Bacnotan, La Union, their ancestral home. We got reconnected when Shirley pursued her PhD in UP Los Baños where I and my sister Ofie’s family reside. When they have migrated to the US, they used to visit us in Los Baños and they bought a residential lot here. That allowed us to stay connected and her family came to visit now and then.  

May she rest in peace in the Kingdom of heaven.
