Silverio Algenio Lopez, 64, passed away on April 21, 2026 in Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, with his loving wife and daughter by his side.
Silverio was born in Lucena, Philippines, to General Jose Lopez and Nelia Algenio Lopez. As a young man, he was educated through the prestigious Philippine Military Academy. In an incredible act of courage and love, he left his home country and followed the love of his life, Christy Lopez, to America, and enlisted in the U.S. Military. Silverio proudly served his newfound country in the United States Navy for 21 years. He retired from the Navy as a decorated Chief Petty Officer. Post retirement, he proudly worked in the Naval Medical Center in Balboa, San Diego, where he dedicated another 18 years before retiring.
Silverio, also lovingly known as "Pepe" or "Eric", lived in Chula Vista, California. He is survived by his wife, Christy Lopez; his daughter, Erica Li and son-in-law, Nan Li; and his beloved grandson, Hugo Vincent Li. He is also survived by his siblings, Algerico Lopez, Rita Santos, and Maria Teresa Salamizadeh.
Silverio leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to his family and friends. He was always warm and welcoming to everyone he crossed paths with. Known as a true “officer and a gentleman,” he carried with him a quiet strength, humility, and integrity in everything he did. He always put his family first, a selfless love that defined his life.
To know Silverio was to feel uplifted by his kindness and genuine care. To be loved by Silverio was to be treated like family. At his workplace in Balboa Naval Medical Center, he was cherished as a father figure and loyal friend by his colleagues. He maintained friendships from every chapter of his life, even some that go all the way back to his elementary school days. He was always remembered by friends, relatives, and colleagues alike for his silly dad jokes, his kind nature, and his unwavering loyalty to his favorite sports teams: the San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, and LA Lakers.
Silverio was a loving husband of 40 years to his wife, Christy Lopez. Together, they built a life rich in beautiful and unforgettable experiences, such as living abroad and traveling often to their favorite city of romance, Paris. But more than anything, what made him the happiest was spending time with his family. He was a devoted father to his only daughter, Erica Li. His beloved grandson, Hugo Li, was the light of his life. He was a proud grandfather who cherished every moment with his grandson, even honoring him with a “HUGO” tattoo on his arm after he was born, a lasting symbol of his deep love and pride.
Silverio will always be remembered as a proud family man, who worked hard for his blessings, yet always found the time to enjoy his hobbies and be a present husband, father, grandfather, friend and brother. His life was a beautiful example of what it means to love deeply, give generously, and live with grace. The world is a much brighter place because he was in it.
Though he is no longer with us, his laughter, love, and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Forever loved. Forever remembered.
