Many years have passed but I’ve still never forgotten, Troy, was a patient of mine in my first duty station. He started off as my patient but became a mentor and a friend, he disregarded my rank and gave me respect as a knowledgeable and old soul E-2 at the time, of knowing each other. Each and every time we had met, we’d go through and talk about my future endeavors in my military career and he’d teach me of ways to open up more in my military career and naval history. He may have been a higher up through rank but he and I knew we were brothers and friends nonetheless. From the moments he’d get infusions, to me being there for his “ringing out” ceremony. Nothing but love and admiration for him and his time in service, the time he gave my junior sailors and I and for the smiles and positive energy he brought each and ever day. He’d always talk about family, his career, and what we can do to better ourselves. Nothing but love for him and the family. Wish I can keep in touch like we used to, but I guess writing here for now will do.

We met 7 years ago and immediately became great friends; we pushed each other to be better and live life to the fullest. It’s been a month without you and still unreal. Dreamt of you last night; usually when you come to me in my dreams it’s always filled with love and laughter. Somehow I realize I’m dreaming, so I always take a second look at you and stare. I’m always overcome with a sadness knowing that I can’t stare at you in real life, so I just hold onto you for those few seconds. Last night’s  dream was pretty similar but when I stared at you, I was overcome with the gut wrenching pain of your loss all over again. I always do my best to remember the good times and to laugh and  smile because that’s what we shared, but sometimes the reality of this is just too hard. I now understand why people say it never goes away; it just becomes manageable. I’ll remember and love you always my friend. Thank you for always popping in and say hi and making time for me. I know you’re with God watching over us 

Troy was definitely one of the best friends that I am blessed to have in my life.  He was an exemplary father to his beautiful daughter Ava, who always focused his entire existence on.  He is an inspiration to all who know him and a blessing to those whose lives he touched.  Undoubtedly, the best among us.

I'll always remember the frequent times I'd hear him yell out "yo, princess!" over the fence.  My sigh always turned into a smile when I saw him there at "the bar."  Patricia and I spoke about him and Ava just about every day and we still do.  His happiness and joy for life was infectious to the point that we felt like our day wasn't complete without seeing or hearing from him and Ava.

Although there is a big hole in my heart now, I take comfort in knowing that his daughter - his legacy - is surrounded by so much love. God bless you, Ava, and your family.

Troy came to mind this evening, and I was not expecting to learn of his passing from an Internet search.  Tremendous sadness!  Troy was a student in a psychology course that I taught when I was a graduate student at Pitt, and he stood out as an exceptional young man with an infectious smile and good heart.  My deepest sympathies to the family in these days—what a profound loss.

All I can say is Troy was a great guy. I got to know him through my son John. He was a most gracious host when I  came to San Diego.  He will be sorely missed.  God bless him and his family. 
 

Mark,Cathy,Ryan,Tara,Erica         My deepest sympathies to all of you.   You know how all of us Martin’s felt about Troy growing up.   You guys were one of us !  When I heard the news from Ryan I was saddened and began to think of our days on Coral Rock Road.   I am the person I am today because of those long days playing hockey and stickball on our street !     Be strong.   RIP Troy and thanks for serving our country.  

Troy had this incredible way of always finding joy in small moments. Even though sometimes he got distracted by his next goals, that never stopped him from having fun. He constantly challenged himself to do more and be more, and in turn challenged those in his life to do the same. This was a trait no doubt that came courtesy of the US Navy, but it made each day you were around him inspiring. The love that he and Ava shared was infectious. Every single thing they did together was so special, because it was the two of them against the world. I feel so blessed to have known Troy and to have been even a small part of his and Ava’s life. The world is a little darker these days without his light. Sending all of my prayers for peace during this incredibly difficult time, and love for the entire family.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I still can not believe this happened. Troy was a very special person to me and many others. There are so many childhood memories that I will remember forever. I can't imagine what your family is going through but, just know you are in my thoughts and prayers. He will truly be missed.

Words can not express the depth of my sympathy. Troy was such a special friend to us, Kristin especially. He always had a smile and those twinkly eyes, I loved watching him at the Miller concerts.
