Dennis “Buddy” Erwin Whisenant, 83, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at his home. He was born January 20, 1935 to Richard Dennis and Ludie Mae Leatherwood Whisenant. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Booneville. He served as fire chief and served in the National Guard for eight years. He retired after 35 years from NEMCC as an Automotive Specialist Instructor; he was instrumental in the development of the statewide automotive curriculum for community colleges. He served on various committees throughout his service.
A celebration of life will be 2:00 PM Thursday, April 12, 2018 at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Mark McCoy and Bro. Pete McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Walker Whisenant; two sons, David Whisenant (Gina Tennison) and Ronald “Ron” Whisenant (Cathy) all of Booneville; five grandchildren, Christy Whisenant Trimble (Randal) of Booneville, Courtney Whisenant (Jonathan Heavener) of Booneville, Kyle Whisenant (Kayla) of Marietta, Brittany Whisenant Burns (Beau) of Marietta, Derick Whisenant (Kelli Devaughn) of Booneville; and eight great grandchildren, Paige, Justin, Jaxon, Braylee, Grayson, Rylan, Tucker and Paxton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Billy Howard Whisenant.
Pallbearers will be Greg Hardin, Jerry Palmer, Bo Russell, Joe Cissom, Jr. Burns and Gary Walker.
Honorary pallbearers will be all former students.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the funeral home.
