

Doris Dean Phillips Armstrong died on July 27, 2015 after a brief illness. She passed peacefully at the Baptist Reynolds Hospice in Collierville, TN. Doris was born on July 23, 1940 in Booneville, Ms. to Eudell and Bunice Phillips. She graduated from Booneville High School where she was recognized as an outstanding athlete on the Lady Blue Devils basketball team. She began her professional career at Buckeye International in Memphis, Tennessee. While working full time, she attended and graduated from Plaza Beauty School. She launched a life-long profession as the owner operator of Doris’ Beauty Shop in Altitude, Mississippi, and subsequently in Boon¬eville, Mississippi. Her hands were never idle; with equal skill and passion she could cut, curl, converse and cook an entire meal - always feeding the masses out of her home and at her church dinners. She was a devoted member of Carter’s Chapel Church of Christ - and was a founding member of the Carter’s Chapel Cemetery Fund. Known as “Nanny” to her grandchildren and “Aunt Doris” to her nieces and nephews (grand nieces and nephews), she was beloved by all who crossed her path.
Services will be held at McMillan Funeral Home in Booneville, Mississippi on July 30, 2015 at 11:00am. Burial will be in Carter’s Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include Gay Armstrong Willard (Bill) of Collierville, Tennessee; grandchildren Cody Armstrong Willard (Julie) and Alli Bree Willard; both of Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters, JoRene Newman and Julia Allen; both of Booneville, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Bob Armstrong, and her parents.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 29 from 5:00 until 9:00pm.
