Gloria Carregal, age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Woburn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Woburn, MA. She was born July 13, 1926, in New York City to Jose and Francisca (Diaz) Carregal. Within months, her family returned to their beloved Spain where she spent her childhood before returning to the United States to live in Boston’s North End, Revere, and Malden. She worked in the garment and food service industries until her retirement from John Hancock in 1982. Gloria loved cooking Spanish cuisine and listening to Spanish and Mexican cantantes. She was a great friend to many, both young and old, and remembered everyone’s birthday, wedding anniversary, child’s birth, and commemorative dates that others may have forgotten. Gloria was predeceased by her beloved son Alfredo, her brother Jose and his wife Manuela, her granddaughter Jody, and brother-in-law Alfonso Serantes. She is survived by her sister, Carminia Serantes of Spain, her daughter-in-law, Caroline Carregal of Malden; four grandchildren, Justine Fialkosky and her husband Gary of Newton; Marc Carregal of Peabody; Alex and Matthew Carregal of Malden. She leaves four great-grandchildren, Michael, Victoria, Sophia and Jillian. Gloria has been supported throughout her life by loving nieces, Mary Couceiro, Frances Lauria and Ana Potter and nephew Joseph Carregal, their devoted families and friends. Viewing hours for Gloria are on Saturday, July 14 from 8:30am – 10:30am at Boston Harborside Home, 580 Commercial Street, Boston, followed by a Mass of Cristian Burial at 11:00am at St. Leonard Church, 320 Hanover Street, Boston (North End). Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Winchester.
