

John was born at Chelsea Naval Hospital, son of the late Angelo J. Giangregorio and Joan A. (Rogers) Giangregorio.
John leaves his wife Leslie J. Colburn, his son Matthew J. Giangregorio, his daughter Anna J. Giangregorio and her husband Jonathan W. Marich of Boston. John is survived by three brothers, James J. Giangregorio and his wife Mary of Sutton, Mark J. Giangregorio and his wife Cindy of Putnam CT, and Gary J. Giangregorio and his wife Wendy of Worcester. He is predeceased by his brother, Michael A. Giangregorio. He leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
John grew up in Worcester and attended Worcester North High School where he was a multi-sport athlete. He went on to attend Worcester State College where he was a member of the football team and captain his senior year.
John was the longtime owner of 3G’s Sportsbar in Worcester and previously owned and operated Boston Painters.
John was involved with local politics and engaged in community, business, and civic groups in Boston and Worcester. He was passionate about improving the communities he was a part of and made an indelible impact. In Boston, John was a former President of the Bay Village Neighborhood Association and played a major role in reducing crime and improving the neighborhood. He was a member of The Boston Ward 5 Democratic Committee for over 20 years. In Worcester, John played a key role in the revitalization of the Canal District. He was a founding member and a 10-year president of The Canal District Alliance, was a founding member of the Canal District Business Association, and helped lead restoration efforts in the area. He sat on the boards of Preservation Worcester and the Worcester Convention and Visitor Bureau. He served on the steering committee of Citizens for Business and as representative for the Canal District on the Mayor's Small Business Roundtable. John was instrumental in bringing the Worcester Red Sox to the city and was active in historic preservation and the Chamber of Commerce. His work earned him numerous community awards.
John was generous, caring, stood up for what he thought was right, and quietly helped many. John was devoted to his family and very proud of his Italian-American heritage. He particularly loved family get-togethers, especially large Christmas Eve gatherings. John loved playing and watching all types of sports and played into his fifties. He especially enjoyed attending the sporting events of the younger members of the family. He loved exploring, traveling, great food, history, and having fun with his friends and family. John will be greatly missed by all, and his positive impact and contributions to his communities will live on as his legacy. His final resting place will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester. Services to be private.
