

Born on April 12, 1933, to the late Emilio and Josephine (Cipoletta) Matarazzo, Sonny lived a full and vibrant life devoted to his family and his many passions.
For 69 years, Sonny was married to the love of his life, Teresa (Manni) Matarazzo. Together, they shared countless adventures, traveling the world with family and friends, creating a lifetime of cherished memories. Sonny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his love for his family was the cornerstone of his life.
Sonny left a lasting impact in Boston’s North End, where he owned several businesses and became beloved for his restaurants. His passion for cooking, especially for his family during holidays like Christmas Eve, brought everyone together around his table. Sonny was also a skilled builder who loved working with his hands, whether creating something new or tending to his yard, always with his loyal dogs by his side.
Sonny is survived by his cherished wife, Teresa; his four devoted sons: Emilio Matarazzo, Julio Matarazzo, Mark Matarazzo, and Matthew Matarazzo; and his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Matarazzo. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who adored him deeply.
Sonny’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and warmth. His family finds solace in the beautiful memories he leaves behind and the lessons of hard work, family unity, and generosity he passed on.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 at St. Leonard Church, 320 Hanover St., Boston, MA, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Bruial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place immediately after the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, Boston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MSPCA in Sonny’s memory to honor his lifelong love for animals.
