To Kol and Andreas:

Although you didn't know me well, you did see me at your home on Cambridge Street when I visited your mother in the 1990s and early 2000s. My name is "Jim," and I was the lead singer in a Boston-based garage band. Your mother used to sometimes attend my band's shows, along with her friend Karin Johanson.

I was also a friend of Karin Johanson and knew her son (and your sometime friend), Charlie Glyman, too. But I have had my own health issues these past several years and lost touch with many of my friends, including Karin and Tamara. 

I had tried to visit once a few years ago, shortly after learning of Karin's passing, but no one answered the door that day at your mom's apartment. I had intended to try to connect with your mom again, and am now so sorry I waited too long to do so, having read online of her passing just a few days ago. 

I don't have to tell you what a kind and wonderful person your mom was, am only sorry I missed the chance to spend some more time with her in her final years, also that I was not around to offer you both some consolation in your troubled times during your mom's illness and sooner after her passing. 

Please accept my apologies for my distance and condolences on the passing of your mother. But realize also that just because a person is physically absent doesn't mean he has forgotten or never thought of another friend during that absence.

In the meantime, I hope your hearts have healed, and that you are having happy lives and look forward to bright futures, with careers, partners and children of your own. 

I see, Kol, that you already have a child who made your mom a happy grandmother in her last years with you.

I remember, Dre, you had been a fan of comedy (especially Chris Farley), and when I knew you you had planned to attend a school for drama and the arts in Boston. I hope you have followed your dreams, if not in comedy and drama than in some other aspects of life.
