Born March 5, 1931 in East Providence, RI to Alfred W. Morton and Lily (Barnes) Morton, Alfred was predeceased by his sister Marilyn Kozinski, brother Lawrence Morton, and wife Barbara Morton.
Alfred leaves behind his children Katherine Hallam (husband Arthur) of Bourne; Keith Morton (wife Kathleen) of Warren, RI; his grandchildren Nicholas Hallam, Kyle Hallam, Sara Warren and Brenna Travis; great grandson Carson Hallam and Noah Warren.
Alfred served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1970. He was a SMSGT, cryptologist, serving in Guam during the Korean War, stationed in Morocco and Italy, and Andrews AFB in Maryland.
Married to Barbara in 1955, they raised their children both abroad and in the US.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, Alfred joined WHOI as an electrical engineer, developing underwater research equipment, overseeing equipment implementation at sea.
During the 1980’s to early 2000, Alfred founded Oceanographic Instrument Systems, Biological Sampling Systems and Sea Scan, collaborating with several WHOI scientists.
Once stateside, Alfred and Barbara lived in North Falmouth, MA; Barrington, RI; Destin, FL; and their final residence in Bourne, Cape Cod.
Alfred was a gardener, shell fisherman, and enjoyed his dog Momo.
A military memorial service and burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne and will be private.
