

Dorithea (Fontenot) Irish, 89, of East Falmouth, MA passed away on Thursday April 16, 2020 at the Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jamaica Plain, MA. She was born on March 19,1931 in Opelousas, LA to Pauline & Colton Fontenot.
Dorithea grew up in Lake Charles, LA the oldest of nine brothers and sisters. As the eldest Dorithea doted on her siblings as a second Mother. Dorithea always made sure her siblings needs were meet whatever they might be. Be it tough love to get the best out of them or a warm huge to console them she was there.
One of Dorithea’s proudest moments was when she meet and married George H. Irish JR. George was a dashing Air Force Officer stationed in Lake Charles when they meet, and it was love at first sight. They wed on May 25, 1955 and stayed happily married until George’s passing on October 23, 2007. 52 years of marriage and three children.
After their marriage Dorithea and George moved to Massachusetts were they both had long careers in the Electronics Industry. First living in Roxbury, MA and then moving to her dream home in Needham, MA. Dorithea could be seen in her yard for hours gardening, doing DYI projects in the home and just enjoying family. Always looking to spread their wings Dorithea and George bought their second and third dream house on Cape Cod. They retired and lived in their East Falmouth home where relatives would gather.
She is preceded in death by her son Melvin Ledet. She is survived by her daughter Ruby Mae Irish-Turner and husband Clark of Easton, MA. Son George H. Irish III and wife Dolores of Plymouth, MA. Her grandchildren; Nicole Irish, Josh Irish and Kyle Goggans. Her siblings; Margaret Carriere; Andrew “Brother” Carriere; Hillary “T” & Katherine Carrier; Floyd & Darlene Carriere and Ernest & Thelma Carriere. Her nieces/nephews; Andre Doke; Veronica and Gregory Bellard; John Lewis; David and Johnathan Carriere; Charles JR, Michael, Victor and Wayne Fleming. Cousins; Anthony and wife MaryAnn Rene.
A private family service will be held at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. Bourne, MA, followed by burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery. A future memorial service will be announced at a later date.
