Gerald W. Collette, 85, of Buzzards Bay, formerly of Spencer, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 after an illness. He will be missed by his sons, G. Kenneth Collette and his wife Holly of Spencer, Rite Rev. Lawrence Gosselin of Olympia, WA, Michael Collette and his wife Mary of Lexington, SC, his daughter Mona Collette of Gulfport, FL, seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and his longtime companion Virginia Katunas. He was pre-deceased by his wife Annette (Caplette) and siblings Donald, Norman and Jackie.
Born in Spencer to the late Oscar and Edith (Fenton) Collette, Jerry spent most of his life in Spencer, moving to Buzzards Bay when he retired. Jerry was one of the first managers of Flexcon, retiring from both there and the Commonwealth of MA. He was an Army Veteran, and was proud to serve his country during the Korean War with the Corps of Engineers. He served many positions in the town of Spencer, including auxiliary police officer, deputy director of the Civil Defense, and many boards and committees. He was a member of the American Legion Post 188 in Sandwich. He was a lifetime member of the Spencer Fish and Game Club, a member of the Monument Beach Sportsman's Club, and past president of the Canal Sportsman's Club. He was a proud supporter of the NRA and G.O.A.L. He was an avid hunter and trap shooter, but his favorite times were spent fishing and at the Cape Cod canal. Jerry was also well know amongst the canal fisherman for the jigs he made.
