He was the beloved husband of Edith (Halunen) Richardson who passed in 2005. They were married for 53 years.
Born and raised in Plymouth, Mr. Richardson was the son of Lester Richardson and Ethel (McCallum) Richardson.
He was a proud member of the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in Germany in support of the Berlin Airlift after WWII in 1948. Mr. Richardson was also stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Vietnam, and many stateside locales over the years. He worked at the Otis Air National Guard Base in the 102nd Fighter Interceptor Wing Civil Engineering Squadron as a Foreman of Roads and Grounds until his retirement in 1968. After, Mr. Richardson and his family moved back to Cape Cod, where he worked as a plumber for a number of years with Williams Plumbing in Falmouth.
Mr. Richardson, his wife Edith, and German Shepard Heidi spent their time travelling around the U.S. after his retirement, and spent many winters in Arizona.
Among his many accomplishments, he designed and built his family home in Bourne and also rebuilt and renovated his childhood home in Plymouth. Mr. Richardson was a lifelong craftsman, with a can-do fix-it attitude who did anything he put his mind to. From blue ribbon-winning miniature birdhouses to full-sized wardrobe cabinets, he was always working on one project or another.
In later years, he was a member of the “Q Tip” Club at the McDonalds in Plymouth where he was known for his sense of humor among his many friends he made along the way. He and his chocolate brown Pomeranian Pooh Bear were well-known, and would make frequent excursions around town together.
Mr. Richardson leaves behind two sons, Michael Richardson of Weymouth, and David Richardson of Tucson AZ, and a daughter, Melinda (Richardson) Medeiros of East Falmouth. He also leaves behind three granddaughters, Cara Richardson, Lauren Medeiros, and Karen Medeiros, as well as three grandsons, Bryan Richardson, Michael Richardson, and John Richardson.
A memorial service will be held on January 5, 2018 at 11am at the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home in Bourne, followed by a service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
