James O'Reilly

James Francis O’Reilly of Cataumet, MA passed away on May 3 rd , 2023 at the age of 83 after a long illness. James was the loving husband of the late Rosemary (Driscoll) O’Reilly for 54 years, the beloved son of the late Thomas G. O’Reilly and Helen (Toomey) O’Reilly. Devoted brother of the late Patricia A. Kennedy and her husband Thomas of Meridan CT, Thomas G. O’Reilly and his wife Marie of East Sandwich MA, and Mary O. McManus and her husband John of Reading MA. James is also survived by many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and close friends who will miss him dearly.

Born and raised in Boston MA, Jim graduated from BC High and continued his education at Boston College where he received both his bachelor and masters degrees. He taught math and Latin at Holbrook High School and Holliston High School for many years. He loved teaching and had a positive impact on hundreds of students over the years. In between teaching James served his country by enlisting in the Marines.

Jim and Rosemary loved to travel and had many adventures all over the world. While at home they enjoyed boating and deep sea fishing, visiting with friends, hosting family reunions, and sampling the local cuisine. Jim was a voracious reader, avid gardener, master of the crossword, and pun aficionado.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 10th from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. Bourne, MA, followed by a funeral Mass 10 am at St. John’s of the Evangelist Parish, 841 Shore Road, Pocasset, MA. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Private family burial at a later date.
