

John was born in Boston on December 23, 1940, the son of the late William G. and Margaret (Patterson) Congdon. He was raised in Roxbury and graduated from Boston English High School with the Class of 1959. After graduating, John began his career at General Electric in the parts department and worked his way up to a position in sales. After working at GE, he also worked for various businesses in sales until his retirement.
An avid athlete, he played football, threw the javelin, and enjoyed playing basketball with friends from St. Patrick Parish. A lifelong sports enthusiast, John was a devoted fan of all the Boston teams.
John was the long-time partner of Sharon Wallace. He was the former husband of Grace Rita (Michel) Congdon. John was the father of Robert J. Congdon, William J. Congdon, and Rita M. Blais. He was the grandfather of four and the great grandfather of three. John was the brother of Lorraine (Congdon) Kernan and Judy (Congdon) LeBlanc, was predeceased by his sister Catherine (Congdon) Puclowski, and half-brother, Joseph DeMarco. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in John’s name to the charitable organization of one’s choice.
