

Lorraine was born on September 8, 1927 in Hartford Connecticut and grew up in Holyoke, MA where she attended high school and college. She also lived in Greenfield MA and Washington D.C. After marrying her late husband, Paul James Karnicki, she moved to Northampton, MA, where she lived until 1974, subsequently, they moved to Cape Cod, Monument Beach, MA. She then worked for the next 18 years for the U.S. Coast Guard Exchange System in an accounting/book-keeping career until her retirement in 1992.
She was the eldest of four children and is predeceased by her mother and father Sylvia and Thomas E. O’Brien and her brother, Stephen O’Brien. She is survived by her sister and brother, Judith Fagan of Monument Beach, MA and Thomas O’Brien of West Carrollton, Ohio, her youngest daughter Helen-Ann Blankenship and her son Damon Paul Blankenship, of Monument Beach, MA, her eldest daughter Sylvia Scarborough and her husband
Johnny of Medway, MA and their children, Johnny Jr., Keith, Sandra and Adam Scarborough. Lorraine also leaves behind, eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was greatly loved by anyone who knew her.
Lorraine was especially intelligent and compassionate. She loved reading, especially the newspaper and was very abreast of world events. She was an avid (New York Times) crossword connoisseur and loved a difficult challenge. She was always full of life with a positive attitude; she loved ballroom dancing and was always young at heart. She had a strong will to live; she was a courageous, beautiful, elegant, and dignified lady. Most importantly was the devotion and deep love she had for her family. She had a practical, logical mind, sharp wit, keen intuition, great sense of humor and loving heart. She was the perfect wife, mother, grandmother and best friend. She will be missed beyond words and her absence will forever leave a huge hole in the hearts who love her.
Lorraine was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist’s Catholic Church in Pocasset, MA. Visiting hours will be held on Friday December 9, 2011 from 1-2 p.m. at the Nickerson/Bourne Funeral home, 40 MacArthur Boulevard, Bourne, MA followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. A private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.
