WARD, Patricia R. (Driscoll) of Bourne, MA passed away peacefully, and surrounded by family, on April 15, 2016 at Royal Megansett Nursing & Retirement Home in N. Falmouth, MA. Pat was born on January 9, 1921 in Dorchester, MA, the youngest of 4 sisters, and was raised by her loving mother Katherine (Hynes) Driscoll. She graduated from the Dorchester High School for Girls in 1939, after which she rose through the ranks of the bookkeeping office of Jordan Marsh & Co in Boston, MA. She met her future husband, Raymond “Ray” Ward, during World War II at a USO Dance. After he served 3.5 years in the Army Air Corps in the Southwest Pacific, he returned stateside, and they were married. They moved several times, spending two decades in N. Easton, MA, raising their only son, and finally settled in Gray Gables in Bourne, MA in 1973. A quiet and humble lady, Pat’s greatest joys came from being a wife, a mother, and a grandmother.
Living close to her grandchildren as they grew up, Pat ‘minded’, cared for and adored the three of them. She enjoyed the friendship and kindness of wonderful neighbors; solving crossword puzzles; visiting Ireland and other memorable vacations with Ray; day trips to the local casinos; clipping a good coupon or two; watching the activity on the Cape Cod Canal; playing Bingo, cards, and other board games; baking Pillsbury cakes; watching old movies; the Notre Dame Fighting Irish; and, of course, black jellybeans.
Pat was predeceased by her husband Ray in 2013 and by her 3 sisters Helen, Katherine, and Marie. Pat is survived by her son, Donald, and his wife Monique (Seguin) of Gray Gables, MA; granddaughter Johanna of Boston, MA; grandson Benjamin, and fiancée Caitlyn Bransfield, of Watertown, MA; and grandson Thomas of Bourne, MA – all of whom will miss her dearly. Pat was the loving aunt to Francis Manning of N. Easton, MA; Judith (Manning) Liston of Brunswick, ME; and William Daley of Middleboro, MA. She was predeceased by niece Patricia (Daley) Moran. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews who adored her.
A period of visitation with the family will be held on Monday, April 18, from 5 to 8pm at the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne, MA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 19 at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 841 Shore Rd, Pocasset, MA, followed by burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Pat's name to Bridging the Years (c/o Friends of Bourne Council on Aging, P.O. Box 144, Buzzards Bay, MA 02532), an adult supportive day program that Pat very much enjoyed.
