Phyllis Entenman McLaughlin, of Monument Beach, MA and Eleuthera, The Bahamas, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012. She was 95 years old. Phyllis was born on May 3, 1917 to Alfred and Augusta Entenman in Brooklyn, NY. Phyllis was an active member of the Bourne community and will be missed by her many friends. She lived for years in Grosse Pointe, Michigan before moving to Monument Beach. Among her myriad interests were gardening, travel, and politics. She maintained gardens at her Grosse Pointe home, in the Bourne community, and at her home in Monument Beach that reflected her ability to combine beauty and function. A visit to her home always meant lovely bouquets on the table and in the bedrooms and bountiful tomatoes, strawberries and other treats. Phyllis has traveled extensively, always bringing back not just mementoes but new friendships. In addition to traveling to her beloved home on Eleuthera every winter, she has journeyed to every continent except Antarctica. One memorable trip was to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia on a tramp steamer when she was well into her 80s! Her adventurous nature is an inspiration to all who loved her. Politics and their impact on social issues, whether local or international, were her passion. She was fearless and committed in her support of causes and organizations that sought to improve life for people throughout the world. She is survived by a son, Robyn, and his wife Barbara, her daughter-in-law, Marcia, and four grandchildren; Phyllisa, Emily, Heather, and Cameron. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfrid C. McLaughlin, a son Wilfrid C. McLaughlin Jr., and a daughter Phyllis Ann McLaughlin. Phyllis was deeply committed to providing support for causes one believes in.
