He was a graduate of Harvard College, 1950. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force, from 1950 to 1954 where he was stationed in Korea. When he returned, he earned his Master’s degree from Boston University in 1958. His formal education was completed in 1969 when he earned his Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts.
Dr. Blanchard led a life of service to the residents of Cape Cod, first as a Clinical Psychologist and later as Clinic Director of the Thorne Clinic from 1955-1991 where he tended to the mental health needs of the Cape and Islands community. After his retirement from the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, he went on to work for Gosnold, as a Clinical Psychologist where continued to work until the age of 86.
A unique soul, Dr. Blanchard was a witty man who enjoyed playing his clarinet in the Falmouth Town Band and Cape Cod Concert Band. He loved reading, gardening, watching Harvard football games and sailing with his family and good friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Monette and his three children: Craig and his wife, Mary; Michelle and her husband, Tom; Cheryl and her husband, Bob; and his seven grandchildren: Sarah, Kaitlyn, Michael, Dylan, Graham, Robert and Allison, as well as his brother, Richard and his wife, Barbara and his nephews, David and Randall.
Visiting hours will be held at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home on March 11, 2017 between 4-6 pm with a Funeral Service held at the Funeral Home on Monday March 12, 2018 at 10 am followed by a Military Honors burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Otis Air Force at 11:30 am.
