Agnes was born on April 3, 1932, in Bowie, to Joseph Francis and Agnes Estelle Maenner. She attended Bowie Elementary School and graduated from St. Mildred's Academy (currently called St. Vincent Pallotti High School). After graduation she worked at Acacia Life Insurance Company in Washington, DC. Agnes married James L. "Jim" McLaughlin November 3, 1950 at the old Ascension Church and after a reception at The Odd Fellows Hall in Old Bowie, they were off on their honeymoon. They traveled to the Smoky Mountains of West Virginia and stopped for the night at Jim's sister's home. Agnes loved to tell the story over the years that Jim’s sister would not let them spend the night until they showed her their marriage license.
With the help of Jim’s brothers, they built a home and settled in Bowie, Maryland, near her father. They remained Bowie residents throughout their life together and raised six children. Jim and Agnes enjoyed gardening and canning, and taking an occasional vacation with kids in tow.
After her husband passed away, Agnes enjoyed spending time with family and friends, enjoying her cat "Smokey" and working cryptograms while watching her favorite soap operas.
Agnes is survived by her children Patricia L. Little, Joseph C. "Joe" McLaughlin, Kathleen J. "Kathy" Nelson, James C. "Jim" Mc Laughlin and youngest daughter Joan M.
