Charles Bruno Diem was born on March 2, 1932 in Port Huron, Michigan. He was the son of Lois James and Clarence Diem. He is survived by his wife, Anita Pellis Diem, three daughters Alison Diem Cizek (Steve) [Montgomery, AL], Lois Diem [Lithonia, GA], and Cindi Diem [Prattville, AL], three stepchildren David Bowrin [Remington, VA], Diane Harsha (Robert) [Gaithersburg, MD], and
Michael Bowrin (Barbara) [Silver Spring, MD]. He is also survived by three sisters, Norma Diem Cook (Leslie) [Harrison, MI], Saralie Diem Smithson (Edward) [Sandusky, MI] & Esther Lee (Lowell -deceased) [Sandusky, MI]. He is survived by one granddaughter Lauren Cizek Marshall (Everett) [Pike Road, AL], five step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces amd nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Michael Diem, three brothers, Clarence(Deed) Diem, Everett (Bud) Diem & Robert Diem.
Charles served in the United States Air Force and retired in 1973 while stationed in Montgomery, AL. He worked as a CPA for the State of Alabama. Later he moved to the Washington, DC area where he worked at Walter Reed Medical Center, and the National Institutes of Health where he retired in 1997.
Charles was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also several military support organizations. He enjoyed traveling in his recreational vehicle, held a private pilot’s license and enjoyed reading about all types of planes. He spent many years doing genealogy research of both his and Anita’s family trees which included traveling to meet family members to record their histories and corresponding with family in Scotland. He was an avid gardener with a particular interest in blueberries and passion flowers, enjoyed working on vehicles and machines, and was also an accomplished cook and baker. He read extensively on Civil War history and frequently visited historical sites.
In retirement he enjoyed spending time with family and traveling in the warm south during the winters.
