

Clyde was born June 15, 1920 in Cottageville, WV. During World War II he was a radio operator stationed in Bermuda. Shortly after he returned in 1945, he married Evelyn Stewart of Evans, WV and they settled in Bowie where he worked for the Library of Congress until his retirement in 1981.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 66 in Bowie. He was a member of the Bowie United Methodist Church and up until his recent illness sang in the choir every Sunday. At one time, he enjoyed singing with the local chapter of Knights of Harmony.
He was a devoted husband, father and friend to many who could always count on him to lend a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Evelyn Durst; one brother; and one sister.
He is survived by his sister, Thelma Vaughan of Huntingon, WV; three daughters, Pam Philyaw of Bowie MD, Debbie Stem of Wilmington DE and Marilee Curran of Bowie; five grandchildren, Trevor Philyaw, Tiffany Knight, Jaimy Gillow, William Stem, and Elizabeth Curran; and one great grandson, Ayden Curran.
Interment on November 8 at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery with military honors.
