

Jan Bernard Urbanczyk passed away at home in Bowie, Maryland on March 30, 2022, after a two year battle with cancer. He was 79 years old. Jan is survived by his wife Susan and children Ben, Steve and Jana. His son Jeffrey passed away in 2013. Jan has thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Jan is also survived by his mother Mozelle who is 101 years old, and his siblings Linda, Marsha, Karen, Joel, Kevin and Lisa. Sister Roseann passed away in 2021. Jan’s father Bennie passed away in 1999.
Jan was raised on a farm in the Panhandle of Texas and was very proud of his Polish heritage. He was a Marine serving 22 years as a helicopter pilot and retiring as a Major. Jan was also very proud of his “Mustang” status being promoted to an officer while serving as an enlisted service member. Jan was awarded several medals for his service including the Air Medal Strike/Flight Award, which was awarded to individuals who while serving in any capacity with the Armed Forces of the United States, distinguished themselves by meritorious achievement while participating in sustained aerial flight operations under flight orders. Jan was the real deal.
Jan was quiet, strong, intelligent and wise and will be greatly missed.
Jan will be buried in a private ceremony in Maryland.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Jan’s home town of Panhandle, Texas at a later date.
