John Delinsky

(military and civilian service) passed away in his home on December 12,

2019 of congestive heart failure.

John was born May 9, 1934 in Wilkes Barre, PA. He was the son of

John Delinsky and Anna Marie Nickett Delinsky. He was the oldest of four:

Marie (deceased), Joseph, and Michael. After graduating high school, he

joined the Navy. For three years he sailed the world seeing Greece,

Italy,Turkey, Morocco, and South Ameica. He then returned home,

graduating from Wilkes College with a BS degree in Business/Finance.

He married Elizabeth Hill Delinsky, a RN, in 1958. In 1963, John

started his career in a civilian positon with the federal government at the

U.S. Navy Department. John and Elizabeth had three children, Susan,

Sandra, and John (deceased). John and Elizabeth then moved the family to

Bowie in 1967 from Alexandria VA.

John had a long career with NAVSEC/NAVSEA in the Washington,

DC area as a systems analyst and managing various departments. John had

also continued his reserve duties into his thirties.

After some 30 plus years, John retired. John's dedication to the

military never waivered. He was a life long member of the American Legion

Post Disney Bell in Bowie . He participated in many memorial events

through the years. He also enjoyed playing pool and assisting with Turkey

shoots at the legion.

John and Elizabeth enjoyed taking cruises and visiting family in Pa. He

also enjoyed time with his granddaughters, Elizabeth, Emily, and Sara and

his cat Sweetie. John also enjoyed seeing his many nieces, nephews, and

cousins when able.

John was an avid reader all his life filling multiple bookcases. He also

played cribbage weekly with Chesapeake Bay club in Crofton for many

years. John became a lifelong Redskin fan after moving to the area through

all the good and bad years. He enjoyed college football, particularly Penn

State, and the Nationals baseball team. He also rode his Road King Harley til

his mid 70s enjoying the thrill of the road.

Until his death, John remained sharp as a tack and witty. He remained

positive through his health issues and was a model patient. He lived a good

long life.

A memorial and celebration of life for John will be held on January 25,

2020 from 11 am to 3 pm. The memorial will commence at 11 am at the

Disney Bell American Legion Post 66 at 9605 Old Laurel Bowie Road,

Bowie MD.
