Our sincere condolences to the Balch family at this time. Karla was a loving daughter and sister, as well as a fantastic Aunt to Westlely Balch.  She will be missed and we will hold her memory  in our hearts forever.

I will miss Karla's kindness, sense of adventure, and dedication to making the world a better place. From taking a brand new friend to all of the museums on the National Mall to using her career to helping others find their way and feel welcome in the U.S., she was such a caring and warm person. Karla and I started this journey with the Stroke Mentor Program together, and her commitment and compassion the last 10 years have touched the lives of dozens of stroke survivors. Karla had a wonderful, genuine manner that truly connected with others, and her friendship meant so much to me. After one of my hospital stays year ago, she came over with gifts and a hallmark movie and her companionship brought me much joy. 
I loved her adventurous spirit and admired her positive outlook. The Mentor Program will live on  because of her enduring positive influence and commitment. Karla will be deeply missed but will always live in my heart.

Karla captured so many moments with her camera. But she captured even more hearts with her kindness, compassion, and love. Karla had a beautiful smile and a beautiful soul, Although they weren’t many, the times we spent together were very special to me. My prayers are with Bryan, Lloyd, Brenda, Dacia, Andrew, & all those who loved Karla.

Dearest Karla.   It’s hard to believe you’re gone.  You are/were such a sweet and supportive woman. I remember being with you at one of the Zumba events and I believe it was about The Heart Event.   I remember you saying how on earth can you have so much energy  you have three stents placed in your heart and when I looked at you, you gave me a big beautiful smile and you gave me the highest hug ever - I will never ever forget that.  May you dance in eternal peace and  tell us and your in your own spiritual way how you’re doing!  Will miss you. Love you always.  ♥️

To Bryan and Karla's amazing Family,

We are so blessed to have had Karla in our lives. She brought joy and a bright smile into every room and was always looking for fun new adventures. We will never forget the Halloween party at her house in Maryland years ago, complete with Karaoke. Karla was always making others feel welcome and comfortable, and suggesting fun activities. At Christmas time, one tree in her home was not enough -- she had multiples, all decorated with love and care, sharing her particular joy at that season.

Karla introduced us to the Amish Market in Annapolis; but she not only loved their food and furniture, she actually stayed with the Amish, learned about them, and knew them. Karla not only took Zoomba classes, but she learned it so well she became an instructor. Karla not only went through the difficult work of recovering from a stroke, she became a crucial member of a team helping with recovery-mentoring of other stroke victims. She learned American Sign Language so she could communicate fully with others. She not only shared our love of Rehoboth Beach, but taught us about the marine life and other attractions there. She was always learning and sharing with others!

Karla was a joy and a light, a remarkable woman and a dear friend, and will be sorely missed!

I am so saddened to learn of the passing of Karla. I first met Karla when she was the law clerk at our Baltimore Immigration Court. She was special and an outstanding attorney. We stayed in touch after she went on to the BIA. 
Kind, considerate, compassionate, with a heart as good as gold, Karla touched the lives of many with her virtues. She loved her family dearly and was so very proud of them. Karla was genuinely a good person. May she now watch over her family and friends.

Karla was a beautiful person, inside and out.  She was a wonderful colleague at the Board of Immigration Appeals where she was known for her kindness and collegiality, in addition to being an outstanding attorney.  Karla always had a smile on her face, and was such a lovely person. She will be greatly missed.

Karla, was one of the best human beings on earth.  Her radiant smiles lit up the room when she entered.  She was loving, caring, thoughtful and so much more.  She gave all of herself to her family, friends and community selflessly.  We love you so very much.  We miss you 🥰 ❤️‍🩹🩷
