
MacDonald, Margaret M., 89, a former chief registrar of the Prince George's County Board of Elections, died June 20 at Country Home, an assisted-living facility in Harwood, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.
Margaret Frances McEleney, who was known as "Peg," was born in Boston, MA and moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1952. Mrs. MacDonald served as chief elections registrar from 1973 until her retirement in 1986. Earlier in her career, she was a secretary at the old Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington. From 1993 to 1999, Margaret and her husband, Harold, lived in Venice, Florida, enjoying a very happy time in their lives. They moved back to Bowie in 1999, where Peg taught Christian doctrine classes at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Bowie before moving to LaPlata in 2003, and to Annapolis in 2007.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, LtCol Harold T. MacDonald (USAR, Ret.), who died in 1999. In addition, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Harold J. Fox Jr.; a brother, Rev. Neil J. McEleney, CSP; and sister, Anne McEleney
Margaret is survived by her children, Anne MacDonald-Fox of Gettysburg, PA, Michael MacDonald of Shady Side, Margaret "Meg" R. MacDonald (Edward Kramer) of La Plata, Susan MacDonald of New York City, Harold T. MacDonald Jr. (Teresa) of Gambrills, Mary D. MacDonald of Annapolis, and Neil J. MacDonald (Julie-Ann) of Severna Park; sister, Mary Flynn (Joseph) of Wakefield, MA; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:45 p.m., on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Memorial Chapel, Ft. Myers, VA. Everyone desiring to attend must report to the Chapel no later than 12:15 p.m. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave., 7th Fl., New York, NY 10001.
