Norman Lynch of Bowie, Maryland was born in Marion, Indiana in 1932, son of his predeceased parents Walter H. and Barbara M. Lynch, and brother of his predeceased sister Barbara Lynch Farrell. Norman is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Eleanor Barbara Lynch, and their three children; Nancy L. Gibson (George), Jennifer L. Arnold (Wayne), and John R. Lynch. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Joshua Callen (Alexi), Sarah Storck (Andrew), Shelly Phillips (Ron), Rebecca Callen, Brian Arnold (Laura), Kristen Arnold, and Christopher Lynch. Norm is also survived by his brother, Clayton Lynch and his wife, Joan; his brother-in-law, Charles Coqueron and his wife, Bobbe; his nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Norm graduated in 1956 from the United States Coast Guard Academy and served on three ships, a patrol boat, and was in command of a LORAN station in the Philippines. The Coast Guard sent him to George Washington University Law School in 1963 and he graduated with highest honors in 1965. He served as a prosecutor, a defense attorney, and on many courts-martial. He became the Coast Guard’s first full-time military Judge. Norm retired from the Coast Guard in 1978 and worked with the administrative courts for 4 years, and then as a Federal Administrative Law Judge for 16 years. He and Barbara retired in Southampton, Pennsylvania and enjoyed traveling, many hobbies, and their grandchildren. They moved to Bowie, Maryland in 2013 to be nearer to their family.
A memorial service is planned for later this summer and inurnment will take place at the United States Coast Guard Academy Columbarium in New London, Connecticut.
