Oga Sophia Allen was born August 13, 1934 to late Eva Morrison and Clifford Allen in Richmond Park Clarendon in the district Wanstead, Jamaica. They thought she was the special child that would sit with Kings, because she broke the chain of death.
At the age of 22 while working as a Palmolive Agent she met and married Bertram Whyte in August 1956. Their loving union produced five children, the late Tennyson, Lawrence, Sharon, Peter and Andrew Whyte.
Oga and Bertram came to Washington DC in 1967 seeking a better life for family. In a year, they purchased a home on Lorraine Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland where they resided for 10 years. The family moved to Beltsville, Maryland for another 10 years. Oga was very instrumental in helping many family members come to the country and obtain their citizenship. She was loving, affectionate, courageous, and steadfast and a great story teller for the entire family.
While living in Maryland, she worked as Phlebotomist and License Practical Nurse (LPN) at Washington Hospital Center, Suburban Hospital and Providence Hospital over a 20 year period.
The family decided Florida was the place to be and moved to St. Petersburg for another 2 years and finally settled in Ocala, FL. While in Ocala she worked as a Daycare Teacher and Nurse in the Marion County School System. She retired from Marion County School System in 2008.
Oga and Bertram joined First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ocala, Florida. She was a very faithful member of the church for many years.
Oga was called home on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 1:29 p.m. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Bertram Whyte; her children, Lawrence Whyte, Sharon Whyte Williams, Peter Whyte and Andrew (Suzette) Whyte; twenty-eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Asseneth McIntyre, Delcita Chambers, Stedman (Sugar) Bartley, Ivy Morrison, Lasselle (Sonny) Morrison; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her church family.
