
“Ronald Irvine Holmes, 91, passed away peacefully at Tribute at Melford, Bowie, Md, December 13, 2025. He was our step father, step grandfather, step great grandfather, step great great grandfather and friend. His presence will be deeply missed.
Ronald “Ronny” was born February 16, 1934 in State College, at a young age, he and his family moved to Philadelphia, Pa. In high school he enjoyed gymnastics, theater, and learning to drive. Later driving his purple and white Plymouth challenger was a highlight.
Ronny’s early years at State College impacted him for the rest of his life. He was a great Penn State fan always bubbling with pride about the “Nittany Lions”. He was an avid reader of Stephen King books and a lover of music especially country western. Johnny Cash was a favorite.
Ronny and Betty Holmes resided in Rockville, Md for close to 15 years before moving to Hilton Head Island, SC, where they lived for over 35 years. Together they were passionate about bowling, tennis, enjoying the beach, and Grace Community Church.
His beloved wife of 54 years (Betty) passed in October of 2022. He had missed her greatly every day. He was appreciative of the staff and caretakers at Tribute for their support and kindness. He loved Annie and Paul Aloi, John Schartner, Jim and Ginny Schartner, their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He always was eager for the latest updates on everyone.
There will be a brief grave side service, Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Parklawn Memorial Park and Menorah Gardens, Rockville, Md. A Celebration of Life is being planned for February or March 2026.
