Shirley Faye Johnson

Shirley was born September 15th, 1938, in Mingo County West Virginia. She lived in West Virginia during her childhood and adolescent years with her family. She graduated from Magnolia High School in 1956. She then met and fell in love with Ronald Johnson. They got married on June 26th, 1961. Ron was in the Army and was stationed in Germany where they lived for a short time before moving to Maryland. Shirley worked at the C&P Telephone Company for almost 15 years and moved up to a supervisory level. In 1973 they got stationed in Florida where Ron worked as an electrician at Patrick Airforce Base and Shirley went to school and received a degree in Cosmetology. She became a hairdresser and worked with friends at a local salon, and later opened her own beauty salon where she happily worked for many years making all the ladies of Brevard County beautiful. Sadly, her husband passed away in 1983 but Shirley stayed in Florida where she made many friends and had family nearby. Later on, she was engaged to Charlie McGee, and they had many great years together until his passing.

When Shirley wasn’t working, she loved to garden and be out in the sun. She enjoyed cooking on the holidays with friends and hosting her family who visited in the summers. She had a great community of friends and was a part of a nice Church there. She always enjoyed going home to West Virginia and Maryland to visit her family to celebrate many holidays as well over the years.

In 2015 she fell ill, and her brother Rick and his wife Denise traveled to Florida to bring her to Maryland for her final days to be with family. However, they nursed Shirley back to health and she was able to live in Maryland and thrive with her family and friends these last 8 years and we are forever grateful for that. She enjoyed doing puzzles, playing cards and games, playing games on her iPad, cooking, shopping, watching the hummingbirds and butterflies outside, hanging with her bible study group, and being with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Howard Edwards (Eula “Irene”) and Magel Muncey (Harold), her husband Ronald Johnson, sister Pamela Pope, brother Howard “Doc” Edwards, sister Leah Sfreddo, and nephew Robert “Bobby” Metton. She is survived by her brothers Rick Edwards (Denise) of Maryland and Mark Edwards (Wendy) of West Virginia, her sister Joyce Kirk (Glenn “David”) of Michigan, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.

Shirley will be laid to rest with her late husband Ronald Johnson at the Fountainhead Memorial Park Cemetery in Palm Bay, Florida. We will celebrate her life in Maryland on June 17th, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. at the Faith Community Church where Shirley found a wonderful community of friends. Please join us for a mass service to honor Shirley. We will enjoy food, drinks, and sharing memories together afterwards in the Church Hall.
