Paul Bohn, 69, retired teaching aid, endearing husband, father, and humanitarian passed away on Tuesday, February 2nd at the side of his loving wife Diane Bohn at Sister’s Hospital, Buffalo New York. Born at Sister’s Hospital to Anne and Michael Bohn grew up on a family farm in Lancaster with his parents and sister Janet. When Paul was six he was stricken with Polio and spent six weeks in the Iron Lung. His recovery rendered him with limited leg use restricting him to a leg brace and crutches for his lifetime. Paul attended Iroqouis High School and went on to study education and history at SUNY Oswego graduating with a BA in Education and an MS in History. While attending SUNY Oswego he belonged to Beta Tau Epsilon Fraternity.
After college Paul worked for Higgins Erectors and Haulers as an operations manager for 30 years until its closing in the early 2000s.
Paul’s second career was as an ESL Teaching Aid in the Cheektowaga School District for 10 years.
His passion for human rights and equal opportunity helped engage his international students challenged with adapting to their new environment and affording them the confidence and opportunity to become successful members of society. It was his true calling.
In his retirement, Paul enjoyed crosswords, Sudoku, sandwiches and his dog Luke as well as following issues in international politics. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife Diane, who was his soulmate and best friend. Paul was a loving step-father to Diane’s children, Sarah and PJ, and a devoted uncle of Matt and Bryan. A grandfather of two granddaughters, Evelyn and Helen. His eldest granddaughter’s first question when learning of her grandfather’s death was, will he walk or fly to heaven. “We all know he is walking now”, said his wife Diane.
He is survived by his Wife Diane, Step-children Sarah and PJ, Sister, Janet, nephews Matt and Bryan and granddaughters Evelyn and Helen.
A celebration will be held in his honor on Thursday, March 3rd at 6pm at Loughran’s, 4543 Main St, Buffalo, NY.
