Born in Covaci, Romania. He was a son of the late Franziska (Eckert) and Michael Andre.
Michael was the owner and operator of Andre Farms Meat Market for over 28 years until his retirement in 2005. He started Andre Farms in 1977 at Treasure Isle Farmer’s Market in Birdsboro.
He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. After his service in the Army, Michael and his wife made Fairbanks their home. He started his 8-year career at Safeway Stores, Inc. as a meat cutter, rising to Meat Manager of the Fairbanks store, and eventually Meat Merchandiser in the Seattle area before relocating with his wife and sons to the Boyertown area where he made his permanent home.
Michael authored with Ruth Baker his own family’s immigration story called “Anyone can be Successful in America” describing their harrowing journey from Romania to Germany during World War II and to eventually settle in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He and his wife Diane also volunteered their time at the Boyertown Multi-Service delivering for Meals on Wheels.
Michael is survived by his sons, Michael M. husband of Kelly E. Andre of Fleetwood and Matthew G. husband of Michele L. Andre of Oley. Grandchildren, Devan T. Andre, Tyler M. Andre, Darby K. Andre and Amy N. Andre. Siblings, Elizabeth wife of the late Nikolaus Botscheller of Boyertown, Helga wife of Frederick Brino of North Wales, PA. And Joseph husband of Susan Andre of Fairbanks, Alaska. He is predeceased by his sister Franziska and her husband Emil Schneider.
Funeral Services will be held at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc. 111 North Reading Ave. Boyertown, PA 19512 on Saturday October 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM.
Family and friends may call Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
