Larry was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on July 24, 1942. He attended Buhler High School and graduated in 1960. He went on to Hutchinson Junior College where he received his Associates Degree. From there he put himself through Denver University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He worked for Guaranty National Insurance Company as their Chief Financial Officer until 1988. He continued work as a Vice President in finance for Copic Insurance Company until he retired at the age of 62 and moved to Florida to enjoy being a grandparent.
On August 26, 1962, he married Miss Davieda “Dove” Schrag his life companion. 60 years, 4 months and 4 days he was permitted to share the joys and sorrows of life with his now bereaved wife. They left Kansas the day after they got married with $350 dollars and built a life and family in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
Larry leaves behind his beloved wife Dove, their two daughters, and their families, Terri (Brett), and Brenda (Drew), and cherished grandchildren, Brady (16), Brooke (11), Mabel (8) and Finley (6). He also leaves behind his sister, Kay Watts and dearly loved nieces and nephews.
His father, Harry M. Dick, and mother, Edna Franz, preceded him in death as well as his brother Floyd Dick.
Larry was a man of faith and loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member and served through the local church at Colorado Community Church in Littleton, Colorado and Bayside Community Church in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Prayer was a companion of his, Barbecue was another. Larry would always appreciate good barbecue, especially if family and friends joined him.
Larry was a family man and connector at heart. He loved to initiate gatherings with family and friends. He was an encourager and was passionate about helping people be the best version of themselves. He participated in Toastmasters International and served on the Board of Directors for The Denver Street School, which supported at risk youth.
Larry had an entrepreneurial spirit. He helped finance and run a successful pool business in his retirement years, Big Water Pools, with his son in-law Brett. Larry’s rise from poverty in childhood to helping financially support many of his family and friends’ dreams was one of his greatest accomplishments.
We will honor Larry’s life and legacy in our hearts and lives until we meet again in glory. We do not grieve as those without hope, thanks be to Jesus Christ.
