Born in Chicago, Illinois, Michael was the beloved son of Jean Dunlop (née Raymond) and the late John Dunlop. His spiritual foundation in Christ began at an early age at St. Damian Catholic Church and elementary school in Oak Forest, Illinois. His steadfast faith in Christ remained a beacon of light and love and guided him throughout his lifetime. He graduated from Victor J. Andrew High School in Tinley Park, Illinois and earned a degree in Business Administration from The University of Iowa. Michael then spent over 35 years as a respected financial investment manager, where he was known for his prudent and sophisticated investment approach, and his quick wit which kept his colleagues smiling.
Michael was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Kelly (née Butler) Dunlop; his children, Emma Dunlop of Providence, Rhode Island, and Michael (Turner) Dunlop of Indianapolis, Indiana; his mother, Jean (nee Raymond) Dunlop of Estero, Florida. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathleen Mathewson (Kent) of Winnetka, Illinois, and Lynn Dunlop of McCormick, South Carolina, and his brother Bill Dunlop (Amy) of Loveland, Ohio; his loving niece, nephews, and many dear friends.
Michael was a lifelong sports enthusiast who embraced competition with enthusiasm. While he loved weekend boating and fishing, nothing compared to the decades of camaraderie and friendship he found on the golf course. His deep affection for life, and those in his life, shone through his ever-present big smile.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Robert Toale & Sons Celebration of Life Center, 4310 Solutions Lane, Bradenton, Florida 34211. Michael fought his illness with unending faith, quiet strength, grace and dignity, never losing his ability to make others smile. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and compassion that will live on in his family and all whose lives he touched.
